Exercise 3: Growth mindset development strategies
It is important for students to perceive failures and setbacks as a normal part of development and not as something to be embarrassed about, to run away from or to hide from others.
Have a conversation with your students on 'what did you fail at this week?'
It can be part of a 'high, low, buffalo' 'rose, thorn, bud' exercise but the important aspect is to see a failure as a chance and to reflect on it:
- how does it make you feel?
- what will you do next time you encounter a similar situation?
- is there something you can change/adjust?
- what are ways to see this failure as an opportunity?
- has your perception of failure changed?
It's a good idea to lead by example.
This week I failed at keeping one of my plants alive...
